"What! a hundred and twenty for a base-ment? You'll never get it!"

地下室，租金价格，我很好奇这是一年的还是一个月的，或者3年的？

考虑Meg一年500磅的收入，也就是一间公寓，需要大约200磅一年，很恐怖哦，大概占到中产阶级30-40%的年收入哦，也就是说，1年10万薪资，大约3-4万要用来交租金，简直跟现代上海差不多了。

说房租崩盘的家伙肯定没听说过1910年伦敦的事情！记住是伦敦！不是二三线小城市！那大概是50-100年后的上海，好好看看，这才是未来。

说Helen神经断了，暗示故事好好重新开始讲了。

难怪第一遍看的时候觉得第10章之前，F在睡觉，现在看来，是结局写完，绝望地回过来写预言的。

Aunt 规劝 Meg/M

"But you will be careful, won't you?" she exhorted规劝.

"Oh, certainly. Fiendishly恶魔般地 careful."

"And Helen must be careful, too."

暗喻两人保持距离

"It is only that a certain family, whom we know by name but do not mention, as you said yourself last night after the concert, have taken租下 the flat opposite from the Mathesons马西森家对过的公寓—where the plants are in the balcony阳台."

Helen began some laughing reply, and then disconcerted使窘迫，不安，为难 them all by blushing. Mrs. Munt was so disconcerted that she exclaimed, "What, Helen, you don't mind them coming, do you?" and deepened the blush to crimson.

昏，M不会是决定把X搬到F家对过去了吧？

其实这话是强F所难了。

"Of course I don't mind," said Helen a little crossly恼怒. "It is that you and Meg are both so absurdly grave看得重 about it, when there's nothing to be grave about at all."

"I'm not grave译成也没当回事儿，嗯，挺像的," protested Margaret, a little cross in her turn.

太可爱了，两个孩子斗嘴又开始了。

----第一遍以为是斗嘴，但grave这个字用得太重了，现在看才明白，是X要M同意，然后搬到F对过去。

"Well, you look grave重大的; doesn't she, Frieda?" 这句话，随便说哪一个都可以。

"I don't feel grave, that's all I can say; you're going quite on the wrong tack."昏，掩饰自己的毛病开始了，还指责对方看错了。F生气了，还不能直说。

"No, she does not feel grave," echoed Mrs. Munt. "I can bear witness to that.

But, as if to prove that the situation was not delicate微妙 really, she stopped in the doorway and said:

"Did you say the Mathesons' flat, Aunt Juley? How wonderful you are! I never knew that the name of the woman who laced too tightly蕾丝带系的太紧 was Matheson."昏，这带子梗还真不懂，嘲讽X

"Come, Helen," said her cousin.

这是Helen的侄女，Frieda，

"Go, Helen," said her aunt; and continued to Margaret almost in the same breath: "Helen cannot deceive欺骗 me. She does mind."

这是真心话，表面上是故事，暗地里，是告诉M，我很介意的。

"Oh, hush!" breathed Margaret. "Frieda'll hear you, and she can be so tiresome."

"She minds," persisted Mrs. Munt, moving thoughtfully about the room, and pulling the dead chrysanthemums菊花 out of the vases瓶子. "I knew she'd mind—and I'm sure a girl ought to!

最后这句是骂M了。

And yet you tell me that plans are unnecessary, and you'd rather risk it."当时，刚刚搬得近的时候，以为是甜蜜，后来才知道，是把双刃剑。

"I hope to risk things all my life."

"Oh, Margaret, most dangerous." F执拗地想逼Xtabel放手

"But after all," she continued with a smile, "there's never any great risk as long as you have money."昏，取笑F乱花钱

"Oh, shame! What a shocking speech!"

"Money pads the edges of things," said Miss Schlegel. "God help those who have none."这是F幼稚的地方哦

这是Meg/M说话

The poor can-not always reach those whom they want to love, and they can hardly ever escape from those whom they love no longer. We rich can.

暗示Helen/F, Paul/M已经分开了。分不开的情况就是书里后来写的了。

后面半句，是all our speeches are the speeches of six hundred pounders.六百榜钱的思想，嗯，我同意的。

"What is it?"

"Helen was looking up at the Wilcoxes' flat."

"Why shouldn't she?"

F牵挂自己的爱人吧。

Evie was in the balcony阳台, "staring most rudely," according to Mrs. Munt.

Helen was proof against a passing encounter, but—Margaret began to lose confidence.

and quite capable of remarking, "You love one of the young gentlemen opposite, yes?"

怕别人传话，传出Helen/F还爱着Paul/M？

"Helen, you must tell me whether this thing worries you."

"If what?" said Helen, who was washing her hands for lunch.

"The Ws' coming."

"No, of course not."

"Really?"

"Really." Then she admitted that she was a little worried on Mrs.Wilcox's account;

Helen/F觉得自己不害怕，觉得Mrs,W/M会受不了

这一点到了eternal moment，2间房，倒还是一样的情况，笑。

"I shan't mind if Paul points at our house and says,'There lives the girl who tried to catch纠缠 me.'果然F粗神经 But she might."在F眼里，M憔悴了吧。

Well, I am going away. Frieda's just asked me to Stettin波兰什叶青, and I shan't be back till after the New Year. Will that do? Or must I fly the country al-together? Really, Meg, what has come over you to make such a fuss?" Helen让步了，F同意回避。

F很聪明哦，问M家里是不是出了什么事情了。

文中嘲笑的临时工There's a housemaid who won't say yes but doesn't say no."说的就是F眼中的不肯决断的M吧，F受伤了呢。

Meg/M， Helen/F

"Oh, I'm getting an old maid, I suppose. I thought I minded nothing, but really I—I should be bored if you fell in love with the same man twice and"—she cleared her throat—"you did go red, you know, when Aunt Juley attacked you this morning. I shouldn't have referred to it otherwise.要不然，我不会提起。"

原以为是甜蜜，岂料原来是。。。其实M有什么难言之隐可以直说的啊。

这个地方M确实有可能是耍了心机的。号称是不想让阿姨发现F爱上自己，顺便间接表示一下嫉妒，让F离开一段时间。但M真正的嫉妒不是这个样子的。所以，这个撒谎后来让F抓到，F是很伤心的。

But Helen's laugh rang true, as she raised a soapy hand to heaven and swore that never, nowhere and nohow, would she again 绝不会fall in love with any of the Wilcox family, down to its remotest collaterals旁系亲属.暗指M

我才知道F最伤心的时候，原来是笑着的。我倒是要哭了呢。

在这里，人物转换，不再有叙述提示，开始用流畅地情节，和人物性格来提示了。
